Where history, character and a few quirky treasures come together.

Our building has been standing proud in Glossop for nearly 200 years. It hasn’t always been the Victoria Lounge though – far from it! Originally a butcher’s and ale house, it later became the Fleece Inn, then the Moon and Sixpence. Ten years ago, we took it over, gave it a new lease of life with a full refurbishment and created the space you see today.

At one point, 20 people lived in the rooms upstairs, including maids – so it’s safe to say this place has seen a fair bit of life. The building has been rebuilt and reshaped over the years, but it’s always been a spot for people to gather.

A few things you might not know

One of a kind in Glossop

The Victoria Lounge is one of the only red-bricked buildings in the town.

The beam by the bar

See the big support beam just in front of the bar? That marks the line of the old back wall of the pub. The bar itself actually sits on the footprint of two tiny back-to-back houses – you can even see how the pizza oven chimney links into their old chimneys!

A bar with history

The black and gold wooden pillars on our bar aren’t just for show – they’re part of the original bar front, which once stood opposite where the bar is now.

Albert the pot dog

Sitting proudly in the Lounge is Albert, our pot dog. He’s been with us for nearly ten years and is named to go with Victoria (as in Queen Victoria, of course).

The rocking horse

Our handmade wooden rocking horse has travelled with us from Manchester, where it once lived in both a bar and a hotel we used to own. It was originally crafted in Disley and is part of the family now.

Treasures on the walls

Look closely and you’ll spot some real gems: A genuine 18th-century Dolly (once used for cleaning clothes). A set of stirrups loaned to us by a father in memory of his daughter, a passionate horse rider. He didn’t want to keep them at home but wanted them nearby, so we’re honoured to look after them until he’s ready to take them back. Two wooden milk cart wheels from Manchester, now displayed above our lights. Four horseshoes on the ceiling – one from a famous race-winning horse (we just wish we could remember which one!).

A touch of colour

At the top of the staircase, you’ll find a beautiful stained-glass window of St George, added during our refurbishment ten years ago.

We love it here

Every corner of Victoria Lounge tells a story – from beams and bricks to horseshoes and rocking horses. It’s a place with history, heart, and a few surprises if you look closely enough.

And now, it’s also a place for great food, drinks, and good company. Exactly how a pub should be.
